There’s a common misconception that television stars, actors, and singers do not experience the level of problems that other people do – in reality, everyone goes through struggles. Teen Mom is an MTV reality series that chronicles the challenges that several teenage mothers face during their first years of motherhood. The series highlights their struggles with graduating high school, maintaining relationships, getting a job, beginning college, and more. Couple Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra were featured on the show, and many across the country watched as the couple endured many struggles together while trying to raise their children. Just recently Teen Mom star Tyler Baltierra opened up about his diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
The reality star stated on Twitter:
“Honestly, I wasn’t even planning on releasing that info, but once Cate mentioned about my recent diagnosis…Like why am I so against telling everyone? It’s actually been a little easier to digest since I have been talking about it more.”
Tyler explained that he has been doing a lot of research on the disorder to learn more about the symptoms and how to better manage them. He explained that rather than choosing medicine, he wanted to attempt holistic remedies first.
Bipolar disorder is a manic-depressive illness that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and ability to complete daily functions. People with bipolar disorder may experience a variety of symptoms, depending on the type they have. Bipolar I disorder consists of severe mood changes between mania and depression. Bipolar II disorder involves more mild mood swings associated with severe depression, and cyclothymic disorder is characterized by shorter bursts of manic and depressive episodes.
Catelynn has experienced some issues with mental illness as well, as she entered a rehabilitation center last year to overcome suicidal thoughts and returned to combat childhood trauma. Despite this couple’s journey with mental illness, they both have worked together to support one another as they find what works best for them.
